It would be helpful if you can provide assistance for how to find tags in github.

Type "git tag" to list them. If you don't have one and want to use the SHA1, type "git log" and use the hexadecimal number from the first line (top commit). That will reference the latest version as well. Tags are just an easy shorthand.

I was trying to determine tags from github since the relevant VM was down at the time - I see a tags link but I'm not sure what you want from there?

No tags exist unless you create them. So you will know if it has tags or not. Once created, you can push tags to github with "git push --tags". Once you have pushed them, you should be able to see the tags in the GitHub UI ("Tags", next to "Downloads")
